Thilafushi is a municipal landfill situated to the west of Malé, and is located between Kaafu Atoll's Giraavaru and Gulhifalhu . It is geographically part of the Vaadhoo channel.

Thilafushi originally was as a lagoon called ‘Thilafalhu’ with a length of 7 km and a width of 200 metres at the shallowest regions. It came into existence following a series of discussions and efforts to resolve Malé’s irrepressible garbage predicament during the early 1990s.
